Kim & Dean elope in King's Lynn

I was up early on Saturday 9th July to prepare for an important day, and It was pouring with rain on the morning of Kim & Dean's wedding. I paused and remembered the words of a vicar in Bradford at another wedding I'd photographed.

It was raining on that day, too. She saw my disappointment as I shook the raindrops off my jacket, and said "Don't worry, it never rains when I do weddings". I thought... 'there's only 20 minutes to go, I hope you're right!' And she was. The sun shone through the clouds over the church 2 minutes before the bride's car arrived outside.

So there I was, outside King's Lynn town hall with an umbrella in my bag, watching the raindrops dry up on the flowers. Thinking that perhaps some of her luck had rubbed off on me? Maybe one day I'll be able to say "It never rains when I do weddings".

Kim & Dean arrived together with their two children (also prepared with an umbrella) and after a few quick photographs outside we walked towards the town hall to look for the friends they had chosen to be witnesses.

Here is their story...

(Spotted!!)

"Right. Are you ready? Here is the most important job of your life".

After the ceremony, the new Mr & Mrs Featherby wanted their photographs taken in the old side streets of King's Lynn before I left them to their reception at the Bank House. So we went for a little walk...

When things got a smidgen emotional, they were there for them

Kim & Dean's wedding would surprise everyone, but I had one more surprise for them. Kim had mentioned she was a huge Gabrielle fan, of course, she was singing at Festival Too that night, across the town during their private reception at the Bank House. She said they would sneak outside and try to listen in the gardens without being seen. As they'd already been seen, we decided to take a little walk through the festival being set up before everyone arrived that evening...

That morning I'd had an idea, and after talking to the lovely people from Festival Too and the Vancouver Quarter, I managed to get a card to Gabrielle to sign for their wedding day. I also knew when she'd be performing a sound check in the Tuesday Market Place! As people began turning up for the festival they left to enjoy their reception. Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Featherby! Your wedding was beautiful, emotional and yet so tranquil. Thank you so much for asking me to capture your amazing day. Wishing you both a lifetime of love and happiness.
